TEMESCAL DUPLEX
These clients purchased their Temescal District home in Oakland, CA about twenty years ago. The small 3-bedroom bungalow, currently about 1200 square feet, was in need of an update. The homeowners wanted to add a bit of extra square footage, open up the floor plan, and add a second bathroom. That's a fairly straightforward project.
But, it became more complicated when they expressed a desire to raise the house up, turning their current residence into the second floor of a new duplex. As a result, we've designed a new two-bedroom apartment at the ground level with a workshop at the back. Upstairs, we created a more efficient layout with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms.
We're currently in the Design Review Process with the City of Oakland. Once that's complete, we'll apply for our Building Permit, and construction can begin!
